About

Western Michigan University is one of 80 institutions accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance. We're dedicated to serving undergraduate students with 120 students pursuing B.A. and B.F.A. dance degrees and 55 students pursuing a dance minor. The department also provides dance training for the music theatre performance program.

Distinctive features of the department include an equal emphasis on training in ballet, jazz, and modern dance, as well as the Great Works Dance Project and the National Choreography Competition.

There are numerous performance opportunities for students Western Dance Project, a department dance company, as well as a number of student organizations. The department is committed to providing professional immersion experiences that will help students make a smooth transition into the professional world. Students also have the opportunity to work with dance faculty on creative and scholarly research projects that often lead to regional and national presentations.
