How to Use Your Bronco NetID

Your Bronco NetID is your Western Michigan University username for all major systems, including GoWMU, Elearning and Webmail Plus. Coupled with your password, it gives you access to WMU online and communication services, such as:

  • Registering for classes
  • Viewing grades
  • Accessing financial account information
  • Email, electronic file space, and personal Web space
  • Access for WMU and MichNet modem services
  • Registration for computers on WMUnet, ResNet, and Wireless Western

Bronco NetIDs are issued with a temporary password which must be activated before the account can be used. To activate your password, go to and click First Time Logging in? under the Getting Started heading. You will need to enter a new password, select a security word and image, and create a challenge phrase. This will allow you to reset your password if you forget it.

Your Email Address

Your email address is generated at the time your account is created. It is in the format of first.lastname at for faculty and staff. The student format and the format used for faculty and staff who have the same first and last names as other faculty and staff, is first.middleinitial.lastname at This is your official WMU email address and all official WMU communications will be sent to you at this address.
