In-Person, Drop-In Career Advice

Common career questions can quickly be addressed through drop-in advising - no appointment necessary! Students with questions regarding resumes, cover letters, activating their Handshake account, or navigating any job search resources can work with well-trained student career ambassadors to by vising any of the four drop-in locations. Drop-in advice sessions typically take between 10 and 20 minutes.

WMU Student Center - 1st floor
  • Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Floyd Hall - outside Parkview Café entrance
  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from Noon to 3:00 pm

College of Health and Human Services - atrium next to Student Engagement Center
  • Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

College of Aviation
  • Coming this fall - day of week to be announced ASAP

Career Coaching

Students can also sign up to work with a professional Career Development Specialist by making an appointment. Career Coaching is designed to assist those students who are looking for a deeper level of assistance including:

  • Helping decide between career fields or majors.
  • Assistance with a job search - often after applying to several jobs unsuccessfully.
  • Identifying and developing personal talents into strengths and how to leverage them in a job search.

Career Coaching may be completed in one session or may involve multiple sessions - either way the Career Development Specialist is available to you until you have achieved your goal.

Career Academy

Students looking to develop their career and job search skills are encouraged to participate in workshops as part of Career Academy. Whether participating in just one or completing the full series, students will gain the skills they need to be able to successfully identify and career field and job opportunities, skills needed to successfully apply and interview for positions, and how to leverage their strengths to be successful overall.
