Collections and Stacks Management

We order, receive and report on all materials selected for the collections of the University Libraries to best serve the curricular needs of the University.

Materials purchased:

  • Books, sound recordings, streaming media, and electronic resources corresponding with vendors and suppliers of library resources.

Materials ordered:

  • Through approval plans
  • By librarians selecting individual titles
  • Recommend a title for inclusion to the collection

Thousands of items purchased every year

  • Items are received, verified, and approved for payment
  • Transactions are tracked by fund and category


  • Binds print journals and selected books
  • Uses national and international standards for preservation and storage
  • Work done by a commercial bindery
  • Staff identify candidates for repair


  • We accept gift books meeting established collection development guidelines
  • Unable to provide estimated values of donated materials for tax purposes

Physical Processing and Preservation

  • We process the Libraries' physical resources so they can be shelved, retrieved, and protected
  • Add labels, barcodes, genre labels, and security devices
  • Repair, reinforce, and bind materials as needed in conformance to preservation and archival best practices
  • Perform rush processing and delivery as needed

Stacks Management

  • Shelve new physical library materials
  • Maintain collection relevance by participating in weeding projects with subject liaisons and Associate Deans for Resource Management and Research Services
  • Collaborates with Operations and Zhang Legacy Collection staff to move materials to storage
  • Configures and maintains shelving bays and ranges
  • Assist with space reconfiguration projects throughout the library
