Scholarship

In addition to mentoring, career development, and industry exposure, the PTF supports the paper engineering students of Western Michigan University through the granting of generous, merit-based scholarships to qualifying students.

PTF Scholarship Award Schedules

  • Effective Fall 2024

    PTF scholarships are offered over five years (on average, students graduate in five years for a 135-credit hour program.) Year five scholarship funds are offered only if a co-op experience is completed. The award for the first-year introductory (fall) semester is $1,000. WMU and PTF scholarships are awarded based on the transcript GPA at the time of admission. 

    3.85 GPA Award: $15,000 ($3,750/year) 

    3.60 GPA Award: $12,500 ($3,125/year)

    3.30 GPA Award: $10,000 ($2,500/year)

    3.00 GPA Award: $7,500 ($1,875/year)

    PTF will provide 40 scholarships annually to first-year/transfer qualified* applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis.  

    *Qualified=admitted with a declared pre-paper engineering major and the ability to be placed in Paper 1000 (verified math eligibility). 

    Renewal Terms and Conditions: 

    • Full-time enrollment as a Paper Engineering major (reviewed each semester)
    • Overall 3.0 GPA or higher (reviewed at the end of each academic year)
    • Satisfy engagement activity requirements (reviewed each semester) 
    • Industry placement (internship or co-op) is required to be eligible for a 4th year scholarship
    • North American Citizen
  • Fall 2022 - Spring 2024

    PTF scholarships are offered over five years (on average, students graduate in five years for a 135-credit hour program.) Year five scholarship funds are offered only if a co-op experience is completed.     3.85 GPA Award: $20,000 ($4,000/year) 

    3.60 GPA Award: $18,000 (3,600/year)

    3.30 GPA Award: $14,000 (2,800/year)

    3.00 GPA Award: $12,000 ($2,400/year)

    PTF scholarships are offered for up to 9 semesters. An industry internship or co-op must be completed to be eligible for a scholarship for the 7th semester and beyond. The award for the first-year introductory (fall) semester is $1,000. WMU and PTF scholarships are awarded based on the transcript GPA at the time of admission.

    Renewal Terms and Conditions:

    • Maintain a GPA of 2.7 or higher (reviewed at the end of each academic year)
    • Take at least one, three-credit PAPR course each semester
    • Full-time enrollment as a Paper Engineering major (reviewed each semester)

    • Satisfy engagement activity requirements (reviewed each semester) 

PTF offers a $2,000 non-resident scholarship for the first year of enrollment.
