Scholarships

Exercise science and Spanish major Enrico Montalvo received a prestigious Gilman award to study in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2017.

All WMU students who commit to a WMU approved, minimum 3-credit study or internship abroad that entails air travel will receive a $110 "passport scholarship" from WMU Study Abroad. While it is not required that this scholarship funds the purchase of a U.S. passport, the amount is sufficient to cover the cost of routine processing while applying at the Haenicke Institute for Global Education’s Passport Acceptance Facility.

Students must have already committed to a study abroad program to receive this funding. Students who commit to a program and receive this funding but later withdraw from the program will be responsible for repaying the award.

In addition to this support, students are encouraged to conduct extensive scholarship research to identify other awards that are applicable to their planned program of study. In many cases, WMU students receive scholarship awards from a variety of sources including the Haenicke Institute, individual academic colleges, select departments, honor societies, professional organizations, and other external funding sources.
