Gymnastics team announces 2018 schedule

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The Western Michigan University gymnastics team announced its 2018 schedule including five home meets, competing for a total of 12 regular-season meets, and ending its season with the MAC Championships on March 24 at Central Michigan University.

The Broncos enter the season after owning a regional qualifying score of 195.405, the highest in school history. Gymnasts scored a team score of 196.075 at the Mid-American Conference Championships, the second-highest score in program history, while tying the program record on beam with a 49.175.

The team begins the season at home hosting the University of Illinois-Chicago at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14. Other squads coming into University Arena this season include Bowling Green, Kent State and Ball State. WMU will begin the MAC season traveling to Mount Pleasant to face rival Central Michigan University at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20. Other away opponents include Southeast Missouri State, Ohio State, Rutgers, Towson, Ursinus College, Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan.

WMU returns 10 gymnasts from last year's squad and welcomes six freshmen to the team this year.
