KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Shashanta James is the new interim director of Western Michigan University's Student Financial Aid Office, effective July 1. She replaces Dr. Terrell Hodge who served as the interim director the past two years.

A long-standing and active member of the University community, James has served in a variety of professional capacities in financial aid. Most recently, she was a former associate director for the office, with primary responsibilities including the Financial Literacy and Education Program.

"I was thrilled with her willingness to assume the director role, and I have complete confidence in her ability to provide the leadership necessary for the office to continue to move forward in providing quality customer service in meeting the needs of our student body," says Terrence Curran, associate provost for enrollment management. "Shashanta has the respect of her peers, a loyal dedication to WMU and the professional competencies that will make her very successful in this new role."

Of Hodge, Curran added, "Over the course of her leadership, the financial aid office has undergone an extensive reorganization and transformation. She has brought a tireless energy and commitment to addressing student needs. Terrell has developed a road map for the future and provided a great foundation to sustain our institutional commitment to making the WMU experience accessible and affordable."
