WMU theatre students in "Show Boat"

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Western Michigan University theatre and music students will offer seven performances of "Show Boat," based on the novel by Pulitzer Prize winner and Kalamazoo native Edna Ferber, Friday, Nov. 11, through Sunday, Nov. 20, in Shaw Theatre at the Gilmore Theatre Complex.

  • Sunday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m.

"Show Boat" tells the three-generational story of Mangolia and Gaylord as they battle family conflicts, romantic adventure, betrayal and responsibility. It brings to life classic songs such as "Ole Man River," "Make Believe" and "You are Love." "Show Boat" was the first musical to combine a wide variety of musical influences from operetta to jazz and gospel into a moving and realistic storyline.

"Show Boat" is a WMU School of Music and University Theatre production. Tickets are on sale now and are $20 for the general public, $18 for seniors and WMU faculty and staff, $10 for students and $6 for WMU students. They can be purchased online at wmutheatre.com, by calling (269) 387-6222, or in person at the University Theatre or Miller Auditorium ticket offices.
