New Issues authors to read as part of Frostic Reading Series

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Two authors who have had their work published by Western Michigan University's literary press New Issues Poetry and Prose will be featured in the next installment of the spring 2015 Gwen Frostic Reading Series.

Matt Burriesci, whose acclaimed book "Nonprofit" was published by New Issues, and Lisa Williams, who has published three books of poetry, will read from their works at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 26, in 157-159 Bernhard Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Burriesci's "Nonprofit" received the AWP Award Series for the Novel. The prize is awarded by the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, which sponsors the Award Series, an annual competition for the publication of excellent new book-length works. His other books include "Dead White Guys: A Father, his Daughter and the Great Books of the Western World," and his stories have appeared in numerous literary magazines. He has served as executive director for both the Association of Writers and Writing Programs and the PEN/Faulkner Foundation.

Lisa Williams

Williams is associate professor of English and director of creative writing at Centre College, where she has taught since 2001. Her three books of poetry are "Gazelle in the House," published by New Issues Poetry and Prose in 2014, "Woman Reading to the Sea" and "The Hammered Dulcimer." She is a recipient of the Rome Prize, the Bernard Women Poets Prize, the May Swenson Poetry Award and an Al Smith Individual Artist Grant from the Kentucky Arts Council.

Her poems have been featured in "The Best American Poetry 2009" and in other anthologies and magazines, and her reviews of contemporary poets appear online on The Rumpus, Poetry Daily and in The Cincinnati Review, Orion and The Hollins Critic.
