KALAMAZOO—Pink Martini, which injects a global perspective to its influences of the romantic Hollywood musicals of the 1940s, and '50s, is coming to Western Michigan University's Miller Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11. The band will be joined by The von Trapps, the great grandchildren of Captain and Maria Von Trapp of the "Sound of Music" fame.

"Pink Martini is a rollicking around-the-world musical adventure...if the United Nations had a house band in 1962, hopefully we'd be that band," says Thomas Lauderdale, the band's leader and pianist. The band's 12 musicians have studied different languages and styles of music from all over the world in developing their wildly diverse repertoire.

Pink Martini’s newest album, the recently released "Dream a Little Dream," features The von Trapps lifting their voices in concert with Lauderdale's multilingual, globe-trotting arrangements.
