Engage in conversations with virtual students who have memory and emotion, and can respond realistically to you.

Students today, especially military students, face increasing pressures that can lead to emotional distress, depression, anxiety, substance abuse and even thoughts of suicide. Faculty and staff are in an ideal position to recognize when someone is struggling and may need help. Our small steps can make a big difference.

Western Michigan University has adopted the Veterans on Campus for Faculty & Staff simulation, an online, interactive experience that helps faculty and staff in understanding the needs, experiences and cultural issues affecting military students. By engaging in role-play conversations with virtual student veterans, users get hands-on experience managing challenging conversation, gain important skills in recognizing signs of psychological distress and how to connect students to appropriate campus resources.

Topics include:

  • Military cultural competency
  • Best practices to connect student veterans experiencing adjustment challenges with support services
  • Information about support services available to veterans
