AHEC hosts HOSA Med-Talk 2016
In a partnership with HOSA (future health professionals) of Michigan, AHEC hosted a MED-TALK 2016 program at the College of Health and Human Services at WMU. The event drew more than 200 high school students from West Michigan.
Learn about WMU's new Master of Public Health
Western Michigan University’s program in public health is a 21st century program that moves beyond the traditional public health definitions, but encompasses the ideas of physical, mental, and social well-being. Providing students with this ability to expand, the emphasis of a Master of Public Health (MPH) incorporates solutions that include social, political, cultural, and economic aspects of health so that action can be taken in concert with other sectors of the local, national, or global community.
HPV Education for Health Professionals
In August, the Western Regional AHEC partnered with the Kent County Health Department to present the national program, "You Are the Key to HPV Cancer Prevention." Participants had the opportunity to earn continuing education credits through Michigan State University.
Dr. Daniel McGee, M.D. from Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids presented to 27 health professionals from around West Michigan. He discussed recently licensed vaccines, the new immunization schedule, described new vaccine recommendations, and identified ways to improve immunization rates.
AHEC is connecting high school students with education partners. Muskegon students visit MSU’s College of Human Medicine. And students from four high schools in the Lewis-Cass ISD learn about oral health careers with the Van Buren-Cass District Health Department.
