Publications

The Michigan Geological Survey at Western Michigan University is an active research center within the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences. The research publications and mapping products from the survey are made available through the following:

  • MGS Geoplatform: Mapped areas of Michigan can be searched and viewed using this web application. You can view the list of maps available for purchase through this platform.
  •  MGS Store: Maps and historical documents of Michigan are available in the store. County maps, quadrangle maps, Hydrogeologic Atlas of Michigan are also available.
  • Michigan Geology: A Bibliography by Dr. Peter Voice, Jan. 2019: This updated compilation lists over 7,700 articles from all known Michigan sources, including industry, professional associations and universities that includes publications from 1818 to present; this represents 200 years of printed or published documents. Michigan Geological Survey assumes no publication rights; this is just a compilation of bilbliographic references.  Please contact your local library or the author to determine any copyright issues involved with duplicating the actual files/documents referenced in this summary.
  • Michigan Geology: A Bibliography by Dr. Peter Voice, March 2016: This is a compilation and listing of over 6,000 articles from all known Michigan sources, including industry, professional associations and universities that includes publications from 1821 to present; this represents over 195 years of printed or published documents. Michigan Geological Survey assumes no publication rights; this is just a compilation.  Please contact your local library or the author to determine any copyright issues involved with duplicating the actual file/document referenced in this summary.
