Jim is a graduate of Kalamazoo College. He taught history and economics at Notre Dame High School in Detroit, Mich., from 1978 to 1981. Jim left Notre Dame to pursue his master’s degree in sports administration from The Ohio State University. He served as a member of the Ohio State University football coaching staff during his two years on campus. In 1983, Jim accepted a position as assistant football coach at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M., and coached there for two seasons.
Jim became the head coach of football and baseball at Kalamazoo College in 1985. He coached both sports and was assistant professor of physical education during his three-year tenure.
Jim joined the Stryker Corp.in May 1988 as manager of training for the Surgical Division. He held numerous positions of increasing responsibility over 27 years, including general manager, Dental Implants Division; regional sales manager, Instruments Division; director of strategic sales, Med-Surg Division; vice president of sales and service, Medical Division; vice president of sales, Instruments Division; vice president/general manager Surgical, NSE and IVS and was president of Stryker Instruments for six years. He retired in March 2015 after taking the Instruments Division to over $1B in sales. Additionally, Jim received his master of business administration degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1998.
In September 2016, Jim returned to the workplace as executive vice president of customer excellence for Flexfab LLC in Hastings, Mich.
