To prepare undergraduate students for their internship experience through workshops that will guide them in the development of strong internship applications and the attainment of knowledge that will give insight into the world of education for future teachers. Students will be able to clearly articulate, through verbal and written communication, their current understanding of the skills and strategies that are necessary for effective teaching.
Each topic will be offered three times during each week. Participants must choose one of the following times:
Tuesdays: 5 - 6:30 p.m.
Wednesdays: 5 - 6:30 p.m.
Fridays: 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Have you ever wondered what school districts really look for in teachers? Come and hear from school personnel as they give an overview of "school-life" and expectations of interns and educators. This opening session will be both interactive and thought provoking... don't leave your "thinking caps" at home!
Do you want to gain an advantage in presenting yourself to future employers? This workshop will focus on an overview of the intern application process. Students will also gain valuable information about how to communicate their strengths and talents to mentor teachers and school districts.
The Writing Center staff will present information, recommendations, and ideas for writing and reviewing philosophy statements. Arrangements are being developed so that each student’s application will be given feedback for further development.
Are you making a positive impression with future employers? This workshop will provide you with feedback regarding your philosophy statement. Remember that your credentials have 90 seconds to grab an employer’s attention. Find out how to put your "best foot" forward.
Career and Student Employment services along with staff from community school districts will present mini lessons in interviewing followed by “peer practice” interviewing sessions.
What should I say? Did I really just say that? Can they hear my heart pounding? Come to this session so that you can "lose some of the jitters” by participating in mock interviews and learn how access opportunities for continuous interview practice. Practice may not always make you perfect….but, in this case, it could make you a teacher!
