See invitation letter from Dr. Warfield, Vice President for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
Eligible Department Participants (focus on one):
- Areas from science, technology, engineering, and math (S.T.E.M.).
- Areas not generally considered S.T.E.M., but include S.T.E.M. aspects (e.g. Music therapy).

On Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, the MLK Celebration committee will host the Public School Student Visitation program on campus. In previous years, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion has worked collaboratively with various members of the Western Michigan University community and the broader Kalamazoo community to plan an array of activities in honor of Rev. Dr. King, Jr. WMU’s theme for the 2017 MLK activities is “The Transformative Power of a Unified Dream.”
We hope your department will join us in our efforts by developing a 15-minute interactive activity for middle school students, which will:
- Exhibit the connection of science, technology, engineering, or math in your discipline.
- Help students understand the career possibilities in your discipline.
In order to increase structure for the program, space will be limited to the first ten departments that register. With the structure, each department should see a minimum of 50 students in groups of approximately ten each.
