STEM Pre-First Year (PFY) Program - Western Michigan University

MI-LSAMP at WMU offers the STEM Pre-First Year Summer Program for students admitted to Western Michigan University and majoring in a STEM degree program.  STEM stands for the Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

The PFY Program is a three-week residential and commuter program for incoming first-year college students who will enroll at Western Michigan University in a STEM major for the Fall 2018 semester. Students participate in this on-campus experience that features daily classes in chemistry, biology, mathematics, and academic preparation or study skills.  The PFY experience introduces students to engineering and science material that they will encounter during the first-year of college.  Student participants will be exposed to science or engineering careers through employer visits and presentations.

The PFY Program will run July 9 through 27, 2018.   Program participants can live on-campus in a residence hall and make use of a 20-meal dining plan, or commute to campus for program events.  Events are scheduled Monday through Friday each week, with some social events available on weekends.  Participants can stay each weekend, or chose to return home.

Eligibility: ACT mathematics score between 18-24
