Bronco Spotlight: Brian McClure

Bachelor of Science, engineering management technology, 2015

Program Manager/Operations Coordinator at StructureTec

I manage nationwide engineering evaluations for the building envelope and help coordinate production efforts internally across all divisions of our company. These evaluations provide our clients with the best solutions for the built environment across all disciplines we serve (roofing, wall restoration, paving and parking garages).

What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is the exposure I get to many projects. We work on a lot of fast-paced jobs, and when we deliver a restoration/maintenance plan that our client can follow and know that their building/asset will be safe and dry for years to come is a good feeling. Plus I get to travel to some pretty cool places! The most challenging part of the job is exactly why I like it so much. It is fast paced, I am working on 6-12 projects each quarter. Managing that gets challenging at times, but that's what makes it fun. In addition, as I have grown in my role with the company having influence in each sector of our business has provided a lot of growth and opportunity personally and professionally.

What activities, resources, or people helped you prepare for your career?

I was a student assistant for the WMU football team, and that not only prepared me to be a better person, but it prepared me to lead and communicate on a level I wouldn't have learned anywhere else.

What advice would you offer students to help them decide on a career path?

Learn, learn, learn. You never will know everything; I have learned so much in many experiences in one year out that I will be able to take with me and grow no matter where I am employed.
