Award Criteria and Recognition

 

APA Scholarship

The Administrative Professional Association (APA) Scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students attending WMU who are children of active members of the APA. The award is in the amount of $500.

The recipient will be selected in a random drawing and announced at the membership meeting in January. The recipient will be notified shortly thereafter. The award will be posted to the recipient’s student account in the Fall semester.
The nomination form (deadline: January 15) is available in two formats.

Outstanding New Professional Award

Winners An award presented to an outstanding administrator or professional with five or fewer years of service to Western Michigan University. Selection is based on the following criteria:

  • Recognized excellent in overall job performance
  • Outstanding service to their specific department or division
  • Contributions to department/division (presentations, committee work, projects)
  • Willingness to assist beyond normal expectations
  • Dedication to the profession
  • Shows initiative and/or creativity
  • Nominee does not have to be an active member of APA

Outstanding Professional Award

Winners An award presented to an outstanding administrator or professional with five or more years of service to Western Michigan University. Selection is based on the following criteria:

  • Recognized excellence in overall job performance
  • Outstanding service to their specific department or division
  • Contribution to department/division (presentations, committee work, projects)
  • Willingness to assist beyond normal expectations
  • Dedication to the profession
  • Shows initiative and/or creativity in the profession
  • Nominee does not have to be an active member of APA

Tony Griffin Service Award

An award presented to an active member of APA. This award is named in memory of Past APA President Tony Griffin. Selection will be based on the following criteria:

  • Active membership in the organization
  • Outstanding service on an appointed committee or the Executive Board
  • Significant contributions to the goals of APA

Nominations

Nominations (deadline: March 15) for the Outstanding New Professional, Outstanding Professional, and Tony Griffin awards are made on the nomination form, available here in two formats. The awards are made public at the APA awards ceremony in April.
