Housing options

Transfer housing options are available to help students find a home away from home at WMU. Students can take advantage of various living arrangements, including community, suite and apartment style rooms. The city of Kalamazoo also offers a variety of off campus housing options for students to choose from.

Dining on campus

Dining Services offers many dining options designed to provide healthy food choices for the WMU community. It also features locally grown produce and accommodates all dietary restrictions. Each dining hall has a wide array of food options including a specialty menu of Mexican, stir-fry, sub sandwiches, American Grill, and World Flavors. Five dining halls and six campus cafes are dispersed across campus and accept a number of flexible payment options.

Getting involved

Student clubs and organizations are a great way to get involved on campus. Over 300 RSOs are available at WMU including fraternities, sororities, community service, religious, sports, recreational and professional organizations. Bronco Bash, the largest collaboration of student and community organizations takes place on campus every fall and is a great opportunity to preview all the RSOs on campus.

Kalamazoo community

Kalamazoo offers big city benefits with a small town feel. Newcomers quickly notice the friendliness and easy-going attitude our residents share. WMU is located only five minutes from bus and train access to and from Kalamazoo.

WMU students enjoy the convenience of riding Kalamazoo city buses for free with their Bronco ID cards to nearby shopping, dining and entertainment. Learn more about Kalamazo, nearby lake shores, hiking trails, skiing venues, and much more.

The Student Recreation Center is the largest recreation center of schools in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and is open to WMU students for free with their Bronco ID cards.

With over 100 workout machines, indoor courts, a pool and sauna, aerobics rooms and a rock climbing wall, students will find fun ways to stay active.

Personal training and group exercise opportunities are available. Programs focus on stress reduction, weight loss, increased flexibility and strength, friendly competition and social interaction.

Intercollegiate Athletics is home to our WMU athletic teams. WMU students attend on-campus sporting events for free with Bronco ID cards. WMU is a Division I-A school and competes in the MAC. Students may contact the coaches to learn more about becoming part of WMU athletic teams.

Club and Intramural Sports are available to students who would like to get involved on campus.Club teams, such as ice skating, women's hockey, and water polo, travel to compete against other schools, while intramural sports, such as sand volleyball, flag football, and dodgeball, are played between teams of WMU students and staff.

Arts and entertainment

Miller Auditorium is located on the WMU campus. From musicals such as Wicked and Jersey Boys to comedians like Jeff Foxworthy and Demetri Martin, Miller offers something for everyone. WMU students receive 50 percent off tickets to shows at Miller Auditorium. Campus Activities Board is one of WMU’s largest student organizations and plays a large role in bringing activities to campus.

The group schedules comedians, artists, movies and so much more for students to enjoy at discounted prices. The Bernhard Center, located at the center of campus, is the student union at WMU and serves as a vibrant community center for campus life. Students gather at the Bernhard Center to visit the Bookstore, socialize, have a meal, or to enjoy entertainment. Computer lab and lounge areas provide spaces for students to rest or study.

Personal and academic support

Students attending WMU benefit from the wide array of student services on campus. From Sindecuse Health Center to the Academic Resource Center, students will find services that meet both personal and academic needs during their time at WMU.

Campus safety

The WMU Department of Public Safety is committed to providing a safe and secure environment at WMU. The WMU Police Department is available to help students at all times, with two patrol cars available around the clock and over 100 emergency call boxes on campus. Free vehicle and walking escort services are also available for students.
