Located in the progressive, culturally oriented city of Kalamazoo, Western Michigan University is one of a select number of public universities in the country classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in its highest category as a Doctoral/Research-Extensive University.

Known for its collegiality, WMU has gained a reputation for its distinctive, highly regarded graduate programs in many fields, ranging from the arts and education to science and engineering and health and human services.

More than 4,800 graduate students are enrolled in WMU’s 30 doctoral, two specialist, 69 master’s and nine certificate programs, taking advantage of the wealth of expertise and facilities that comprise our community of scholars, teachers, artists and scientists.
