Michigan has issued a license plate for Western Michigan University featuring the traditional block “W” that has served as a symbol of Western since its founding. More than 11,000 WMU plates are on the road, bringing in more than $100,000 annually to support WMU students.
The cost for a new plate is $35, with $25 going to the University. Each year a vehicle is registered with that plate, $10 is assessed and that fee goes to WMU.
The cost for a new personalized plate is $65, with $25 coming to WMU, and $10 coming to WMU each time the WMU plate is renewed.
You can personalize a plate with up to six capital letters, numbers or spaces. Punctuation and symbols cannot be used. Original orders must be made at a Secretary of State office, but you can check availability online.
Your “W” license plate will be mailed within 30 days of the date ordered.
The cost is $10 to replace the standard WMU Bronco logo plate with the new block "W" plate, and $15 if it is a personalized plate. If you replace a standard plate, you will get a new license number. You can, however, go to a Secretary of State office and request a new plate with your old numbers.
Yes, but no new Bronco logo plates will be issued.
If your vehicle registration isn‘t due soon, you can purchase a new WMU plate, and the Secretary of State office will prorate your registration fees.
