Brass Celebration of Christmas is annual favorite

KALAMAZOO--The Western Brass Quintet will present its popular holiday concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University.

General admission tickets are $15, $12 for senior citizens, and $5 for WMU students with a valid school ID. They are available at the door and through the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office at millerauditorium.com/som, (269) 387-2300 or (800) 228-9858.

A Brass Celebration of Christmas features the Western Brass Quintet and an ensemble of brass and percussion students and faculty from the WMU School of Music, including Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra principal timpanist Mark Guthrie. Members of the brass quintet include faculty members Scott Thornburg and Stephen Jones, trumpet; Lin Foulk, horn; Daniel Mattson, trombone; and Deanna Swoboda, tuba.

The program includes music for brass ensemble with selections from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The afternoon promises a festive mixture of traditional holiday music, brass classics and new favorites.
