From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., students will be able to view display rooms finished with bedroom carpeting, ceramic tile, laminate flooring, cabinets, lighting, bathroom and kitchen fixtures, and major appliances.
Furniture is also planned for delivery before the open house preview in July. The new furniture, chosen by students, includes sofas, tables, desks, chairs and bedroom furnishings. WMU students tested sample furnishings and then voted for their favorite styles last spring. Winning student furniture choices can be previewed online.
Selected members of the WMU community had the opportunity to take a campus housing trolley tour during June orientations that included a stop at the Western View. The trolley also stopped at the Valley I residential complex, French Hall, and the remodeled Bistro3 dining room. Future housing tours will be scheduled again this fall.
The Western View construction project is on schedule for fall completion, with move-in days planned before the start of the semester on Monday, Aug. 8, and Monday, Aug. 29. The new complex is at full capacity for 2011-12, with a waiting list of nearly 200 students. Sign-up will begin this fall for the 2012-13 academic year.
Western View offers one, two, three and four bedroom apartment-style units to upperclassmen and graduate students. Residents can choose from furnished or unfurnished units. The new complex is located on Knollwood Avenue, on the west side of WMU's main campus near the circle drive entrance and Faunce Student Services building. View WMU's housing map for location details.
