Public meeting on new archives facility rescheduledFeb. 18, 2011 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University has rescheduled an important public meeting on development of a new facility for its Archives and Regional History Collections. The previous meeting was cancelled due to severe weather. It is now set for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in the Fetzer Center on WMU's main campus. The event is designed to gather input on the new facility from members of the campus and local communities as well as to provide information to the public about ongoing activities. During the meeting, University Libraries staff members will explain the history and status of the existing facilities. A representative from the SHW Group, project architect, also will be on hand to present the proposed conceptual design for the new facility. University Libraries is in the planning phase of developing a new home for its popular Archives and Regional History Collections and its Library Shared Resources Stacks. The archives unit is housed in aging East Hall, WMU's first building, which is not suited for long-term storage of archival materials.
