Flags lowered for victims of Arizona shooting

KALAMAZOO--By order of President Barack Obama, U.S. flags on all campuses of Western Michigan University and throughout the United States will be lowered until sunset Friday, Jan. 14, out of respect for the victims of the shootings Jan. 8 in Tucson, Ariz.

Six people were killed, including 9-year-old Christina Taylor Green, and 14 were wounded, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, when a gunman opened fire in front of a supermarket in Tucson. Giffords, who was critically wounded, had been meeting with constituents.

In addition to Green, those killed were Dorothy Morris, 76; U.S. District Judge John Roll, 63; Phyllis Schneck, 79; Dorwin Stoddard, 76; and Gabe Zimmerman, 30, a member of Giffords' staff.
