Armed robbery suspect surrenders to police

Dec. 15, 2010

KALAMAZOO--A suspect in two armed robberies on Western Michigan University's main campus earlier this week turned himself in at the WMU Public Safety building at 11 a.m. this morning. The identity of the suspect and further details are being withheld pending arraignment.

The robberies occurred at 6:20 and 6:55 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, in the area of the roundabout near Faunce Student Services Building. The victims in the separate robberies, a man and a woman, are both WMU students. Neither was harmed. The man's wallet and the women's purse were stolen.

Following the second robbery, the suspect was seen fleeing in the general direction of nearby Rood Hall. Images of the suspect were found on security cameras in Rood Hall, and the woman's purse was later found in the building. Publication of one security camera photo resulted in several tips to police about the identity of the suspect.
