Candidates come to campus for student forum

KALAMAZOO--Six candidates for the Michigan Legislature and the major-party candidates for U.S. Representative in Southwest Michigan will attend a forum at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, in Room 157 of the Bernhard Center at Western Michigan University.

The event intended primarily for students is open to the public free of charge. Candidates are listed below as they appear on the Nov. 2 ballot.

U.S. House of Representatives, Michigan 6th District
Fred Upton, Republican
Don Cooney, Democrat

Michigan Senate, 20th District
Tonya Schuitmaker, Republican
Bobby Hopewell, Democrat

Michigan House, 60th District
Jeff Fernandez, Republican
Sean McCann, Democrat

Michigan House, 61st District
Margaret O'Brien, Republican
Thomas Batten, Democrat

The candidates will be given time to address the crowd and answer questions. They will also be invited to meet one-on-one with students and others in attendance to talk about issues and answer questions.
