Robert B. Jones, which begins at noon.

Three lots will be closed at 4 a.m. Thursday and will be open only to people arriving for the memorial service. WMU Public Safety staff will be present to assist motorists. Lots will open for normal campus use at 2 p.m.

Lots closed Thursday morning, Oct. 28

  • Lot 33, designated for "R" (employee) parking permits, directly south of Miller Auditorium and Gilmore Theatre Complex
  • Lot 34, designated for "W" (student) parking permits, directly south of the Miller Parking Ramp
  • Lot 35, Miller Parking Ramp, the east section of the first level only will be closed and used for handicap and reserved parking for the service

Students, faculty and staff who normally park in the closed lots are encouraged to make other plans for Thursday morning.

All motorists are encouraged to avoid the area around Miller Auditorium, Western Avenue and Howard Street between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday, because of the high volume of traffic expected for the memorial.

Jones died Sunday, Oct. 17, at age 66. The former four-term Kalamazoo mayor will lie in state in the atrium of Kalamazoo City Hall from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27.
