Parking lots closed in preparation for memorial serviceOct. 25, 2010 KALAMAZOO--Several parking lots in the area of Miller Auditorium at Western Michigan University will be closed Thursday morning, Oct. 28, in preparation for the community memorial service for state Rep. Robert B. Jones, which begins at noon. Three lots will be closed at 4 a.m. Thursday and will be open only to people arriving for the memorial service. WMU Public Safety staff will be present to assist motorists. Lots will open for normal campus use at 2 p.m.
Students, faculty and staff who normally park in the closed lots are encouraged to make other plans for Thursday morning. All motorists are encouraged to avoid the area around Miller Auditorium, Western Avenue and Howard Street between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday, because of the high volume of traffic expected for the memorial. Jones died Sunday, Oct. 17, at age 66. The former four-term Kalamazoo mayor will lie in state in the atrium of Kalamazoo City Hall from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27.
