WMU holds a United Way campaign each fall. Contributions go to the Greater Kalamazoo United Way, which works with dozens of local agencies to help struggling individuals and families meet immediate challenges and secure the resources they need to keep moving in a positive direction.

"With unemployment at 13 percent, the need, even in a community as generous as Kalamazoo, is vast," says Dr. Joe Reish, dean of University Libraries and chair of the campus United Way campaign. "Those of us who are able to give have to go above and beyond this year. It's up to us to make sure those who are struggling can provide for themselves and their families, so they can get back to making positive contributions to the community."

This year's fundraising began in September and will continue through Friday, Nov. 5. So far, faculty, staff and retirees have contributed nearly $92,700 in gifts and pledges, bringing the University 34 percent of the way to its $275,000 goal in the first part of the campaign.

Gifts can be made as one-time donations by cash, check or credit card, or as pledges, payable by payroll deduction, credit card or direct billing from United Way.
