Public safety oversight committee to be formedOct. 5, 2010 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University will establish a Public Safety Oversight Committee thanks to a measure approved its trustees at their September meeting. WMU has had the authority to create such an entity since the board approved its establishment in 2004 in accordance with Michigan law. The intent of such a committee is to hear grievances against public safety officers or the department. While fully authorized, the committee has never been activated. The Sept. 23 action endorsed by the board spells out the committee's charge, authority, composition and operating procedures. Members will include faculty and staff members as well as graduate and undergraduate students. Media contact: Cheryl Roland, (269) 387-8400, cheryl.roland@wmich.edu WMU News |
