Workshops help students adjust to college life
Sept. 29, 2010
KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University has launched a series of workshops designed to help new students navigate their first year of college.
The Western Success Series is part of campuswide efforts to foster students' academic and personal success. Workshops help students get to know WMU while preparing them for the challenges of college life. Topics covered include academic success, transition and adjustment, financial literacy, diversity, health and wellness, and career exploration. Additional seminars have been added to address special concerns of transfer and veteran students.
Workshops last about an hour and will be held between 6 and 8:30 p.m. Oct. 5-7 and Oct. 26-28 at various locations around campus. No registration is required, and the series is open to all WMU students. First-year and new transfer students are especially encouraged to attend, and those who do will be entered into a drawing for prizes, including bookstore gift cards and an Apple iPad.
For more information and a full listing of workshops, visit the Western Success Series online. The series was organized by WMU's First-Year Experience office and Center for Academic Support Programs.
