Road construction nearing completion

Aug. 20, 2010

KALAMAZOO--Barring weather delays, several major road projects on and around the main campus of Western Michigan University should be completed by the Aug. 30 arrival of first-year students to campus.

Howard Street, north of campus, has been closed to traffic since mid-June for construction of two new roundabouts. It is expected to open by Aug. 30, restoring the only direct route from West Campus to West Main Street.

West Michigan Avenue, next to the Student Recreation Center and Kanley Track, has been partially closed to traffic since the beginning of August for resurfacing and extensive curb work.

Western Avenue resurfacing from Read Fieldhouse to the Miller Parking Ramp is expected to be completed by Aug. 28.

A variety of other projects, including extensive renovations of Davis Dining Hall and the Bernhard Center main lobby, will also be completed by Aug. 28 in time for new student arrival.
