Sarah J. StroudJune 28, 2010 Dr. Sarah J. Stroud, a former Western Michigan University faculty member, died Jan. 6. She was 96. Stroud joined the faculty of WMU's University High School in 1955 and was appointed professor of teacher education in 1971. She retired with emerita status in 1976 after 21 years of service. A Three Rivers and Vicksburg, Mich., resident, Stroud was active in the National and Michigan Education associations and the National and Michigan Association for Schools Counselors and Deans. She served as chair of several professional groups and conferences, including an MASCD state conference and the Michigan Department of Public Instruction's Curriculum Planning Committee for Core and General Education in 1964-65. Stroud began her education career as a junior high school teacher in the Vicksburg Community Schools and Kalamazoo Public Schools. She earned a bachelor's degree from Kalamazoo College in 1934, master's degree from WMU in 1955, and doctoral degree from Michigan State University in 1966.
