Obama visit triggers campus road closings

KALAMAZOO--A small number of road closures in the area around University Arena at Western Michigan University will be triggered by President Barack Obama's visit today for Kalamazoo Central High School's commencement.

Oliver Street west of Stadium Drive and Western Avenue between West Michigan Avenue and South Hayes Drive will be closed between noon and 9 p.m. Parts of West Michigan Avenue near the Student Recreation Center, between North Dormatory Road and Burrows Street, will see a series of brief closings.

Motorists should plan to stay away from the University Arena area of campus and plan to enter and leave campus using roads to the west of the main campus.

Read Fieldhouse/University Arena and the Student Recreation Center will be closed all day in preparation for the commencement ceremony.

Parking Lot No. 102 at the corner of Stadium Drive and Oliver Street, next to Ebert softball field, has been designated as a gathering point for groups planning rallies or other free speech activities, so that lot joins a number of other campus lots previously announced as closed for the day.
