Trustees meet by phone to consider PIO contractMay 5, 2010 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's Board of Trustees will hold a brief formal meeting by conference call at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 6, to consider a newly negotiated labor agreement with the Professional Instructors Organization, a union representing part-time faculty members. The conference call will begin at 8 a.m. and originate in the Connable Board of Trustees Room in the Bernhard Center. Interested members of the public are welcome to attend. The PIO, which includes approximately 450 members, is made up of non-tenure-track instructors who teach at least three and fewer than 10 credits per semester. The union was organized as the result of a vote in June 2009. Negotiations between the PIO and the University began in September and an agreement was reached in mid-April. Members of the PIO ratified the agreement in a vote held April 25. The contract requires approval by the WMU board before it is finalized and implemented. If approved by WMU trustees, the contract--with some exceptions--would be effective immediately. Media contact: Cheryl Roland, (269) 387-8400, cheryl.roland@wmich.edu WMU News |
