Dec. 17, 2009

KALAMAZOO--Two Western Michigan University professors have been sharing their expertise with educators in Russia while also strengthening ties between WMU and Russian institutions.

Dr. Andrew Targowski, professor of business information systems, and Dr. Richard Zinser, associate professor of family and consumer sciences, were invited to visit Siberia, Russia, this fall to present papers at an international conference.

The conference was held in Kemerovo at the Regional Institute of Professional Education Development. Some 350 people participated from 11 countries, mostly from Russia and surrounding areas such as Azerbaijan and Mongolia.

Prior to the conference, Targowski and Zinser visited the city of Novokuznetsk to meet with faculty at the Kuzbass State Pedagogical Academy, where they signed a letter of intent to collaborate on research and publication in the field of comparative education, culture and civilization.

During their visit to Russia, the two also were nominated to the editorial board of a new journal called "Professional Education in Russia and Abroad."
