Music professor remembered with benefit concertOct. 2, 2009 KALAMAZOO--Kalamazoo native and Houston Symphony Orchestra cellist Jeffrey Butler will perform in a benefit concert honoring his father, former Western Michigan University professor Herbert Butler, Friday, Oct. 9. The performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. in WMU's Dalton Center Recital Hall. Tickets are $12, $10 for senior citizens and $5 for students, and are available from the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office at (269) 387-2300 or (800) 228-9858. Full-price tickets are also available online at millerauditorium.com. Concert proceeds will support the WMU School of Music Butler Scholarship. Herbert's wife, Mary Butler, a prominent local cellist and music teacher, will sponsor an open reception following the recital. Jeffrey Butler has been a cellist in the Houston Symphony since 1986. He holds degrees in music performance from Boston University and the University of Michigan, where he was awarded the prestigious Stanley Medal.
