Four receive staff excellence awards

June 24, 2009

KALAMAZOO--Four exceptional employees have received Western Michigan University's annual Make a Difference Award, and will be recognized by President John M. Dunn during an on-campus luncheon Thursday, July 16.

This prestigious award is reserved for WMU's most outstanding staff employees--those who reach far beyond their assigned responsibilities to give generously and creatively of their time and talents, making the University an even finer place to work and study. The annual award comes with a $1,000 prize.

Make a Difference annual award recipients

  • Cheri Edgar, of Portage, office coordinator in the Department of Business Information Systems
  • Deborah Goostrey, of Gobles, building services coordinator in the College of Health and Human Services
  • Stephan Keto, of Kalamazoo, a grounds supervisor in Physical Plant-landscape services
  • Mary Ramlow, of Portage, office coordinator in the Evaluation Center

Make a Difference is a peer-to-peer recognition program for WMU staff members. The program features two rounds of semiannual awards, which are presented to as many as 15 people each fall and spring semesters. Only the winners of that honor are eligible to receive one of the four annual awards that are given out each year.

All Make a Difference Award recipients are selected by a committee composed of staff members who represent the bargaining and nonbargaining employee groups participating in the recognition program: the Administrative Professional Association; American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees; Michigan State Employees Association; Police Officers Association; and Professional Support Staff Organization.
