Retirements and resignations announced

KALAMAZOO--The retirements of four staff members were approved by the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees at its June 4 meeting.

Trustees also noted a change in one faculty member's retirement date, signed off on one faculty member's return to teaching and accepted the resignations of two faculty members.

Retirements

  • Lyman J. Goes, director of operations/facilities management, 39-1/2 years, effective Dec. 31, 2009
  • William C. Johnson, custodian in Physical Plant-building custodial and support services, 10 years, effective June 30, 2009
  • Donna C. Mearing, director of University Curriculum, 13 years, effective Aug. 16, 2009
  • Kevin J. O'Donnell, lead skills training specialist in the Center for Disability Services, 15 years, effective June 30, 2009

In addition, the previously announced faculty retirement date for Dr. Gary L. Wegenke, dean of the College of Education and professor of educational leadership, research and technology, was changed. Wegenke will retire with emeritus status April 30, 2010, after 12 years of service.

Resignations

Dr. Kathryn Lewis-Ginebaugh is stepping down as assistant director of the University Counseling and Testing Center, effective June 30, 2009. She will return to teaching.

Faculty members resigning are:

  • Dr. Carmen Cornieles-Domanico, faculty specialist II-lecturer in the College of Education, effective April 22, 2009
  • Dr. Joyce Walker, assistant professor of English, effective April 25, 2009
