Three receive commercialization awards

KALAMAZOO--Three Western Michigan University faculty members have received a total of $44,500 in 2009 awards from WMU's Technology Development Fund.

The fund is a grant program that supports the further development of faculty inventions. This year's awards were announced in the spring issue of Inquiry, a quarterly newsletter published by the Office of the Vice President for Research.

2009 recipients

  • Dr. Richard Spates, professor of psychology, $19,000, "Testing the Efficacy of a Computer-based Treatment for Depression and PTSD"
  • Dr. Adam Milewski, principal research associate in the Department of Geosciences, $14,500, "Hydroinformatics: Bridging the Gap Between Hydrology and Technology"
  • Dr. Ala Al-Fuqaha, assistant professor of computer science, $11,000, "Call Home Analysis and Response System"

The spring issue of Inquiry also features stories on the nine faculty members who won 2009-10 Research Development Awards and 24 faculty members who won 2008-09 Support for Faculty Scholars Awards.
