University Theatre catches disco feverMarch 2, 2009 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University Theatre channels disco fever and the spirit of Billy Shakes with "The Donkey Show," running March 19-29 in York Arena Theatre at the Gilmore Theatre Complex. Performances of "The Donkey Show" at York Arena Theatre
"A Midsummer Night's Dream" gets the nightclub treatment in this far-out incarnation by Randy Weiner. The playing space has been transformed into a funky dance floor where audience and actors boogie to the tunes of Donna Summer and Sly and the Family Stone. Unlike anything ever done at the University Theatre, this production takes patrons from audience members to party guests, making them part of the action. Dress to impress so the bouncer doesn't refuse you at the door--you won't want to miss the best party since 1979. A cash bar will be available throughout the performance. Jay Berkow, assistant professor of theatre, directs the all-student cast, which includes Billy Casey, Joe Dely, Heather Dolan, Megan Jacobson, Patrick Keefe, Chas Lowery, Brian Martin, Ben Maters, Ryan Mayes, Zachary McConnell, Sue-Yenn Ng, Kayla Peabody, Samuel X. Ramirez, Ahren Rehmel, Martin Skocelas-Hunter, Alicia Marie Thoel, Ashley Travis, Amanda Treppa, Sarah Waalkes and Jared Woodhouse. The creative team includes WMU student Emily R. Cherry as stage manager. General admission seating for "The Donkey Show" at York Arena Theatre is $20, $15 for senior citizens and WMU employees, and $5 for students. Tickets are available by calling (269) 387-6222, online at wmich.edu/theatre, or by visiting the Gilmore Theatre Complex Ticket Office, Miller Auditorium Ticket Office or downtown Kalamazoo's Epic Center Box Office.
