Board approves Gender and Women's Studies name change
Dec. 15, 2008
KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University trustees approved a name change Dec. 12 for a longstanding WMU academic unit. Gender and Women's Studies is the new name for the unit that was for years known as the Center for Women's Studies.
The University's Faculty Senate previously approved the name change because the unit does not operate in a manner consistent with WMU's definition of a "center." The term "gender" was added to the name to make the unit name consistent with the expansion of the field of women's studies to include gender studies.
