Trustees approve retirements of two faculty, eight staff members

DETROIT--Western Michigan University trustees approved the retirements of two faculty members and eight staff members at their Nov. 7 meeting in Detroit. Trustees also changed one faculty member's retirement date and accepted the resignations of two other faculty members.

Both of the faculty members who are retiring are doing so with emerita status. Their names, positions, years of continuous service and effective dates of retirement are: Dr. Josephine Barry Davis, associate professor of teaching, learning and educational studies, 11-1/2 years, effective April 19, 2009, and Dr. Annette C. Skellenger, associate professor of blindness and low vision studies, 10-1/2 years, effective April 25, 2009. In addition, the previously announced retirement date for Dr. Richard G. Cooper, professor of occupational therapy, was changed. Cooper will retire with emeritus status April 18, 2010, after 33 years of service.

The staff members retiring are: Sandra R. Bastian, coordinator of media equipment in the Office of Information Technology, 13-1/2 years, effective Oct. 31, 2008; Georgia Kerby Bryan, associate registrar–scheduling, 30-1/2 years, effective Oct. 15, 2008; Ronald G. Canard, supervisor of maintenance services in physical plant-maintenance services, 34 years, effective Sept. 30, 2008; Edward H. Holloway, systems support specialist in Universities Libraries, 14 years, effective Sept. 30, 2008; Dale B. Latulippe, faculty specialist II in blindness and low vision studies, 10-1/2 years, effective Dec. 14, 2008; Daisy Lipsey, manager of accounts receivable, 25 years, effective Dec. 31, 2008; Gail L. MacNellis, office coordinator for the dean's office in College of Fine Arts, 36-1/2 years, effective March 31, 2009; and Maria H. Da Silva McGurn, academic advisor for the College of Arts and Sciences, 35-1/2 years, effective Dec. 31, 2008.

The faculty members resigning are: Mozhdeh B. Bruss, associate professor of family and consumer sciences, effective Dec. 31, 2008; and Dr. Mohsen Guizani, professor of computer science, effective Aug. 10, 2008.
