Robert SechlerOct. 9, 2008 Robert Sechler, associate professor emeritus in mathematics and statistics at Western Michigan University, died Sept. 13. He was 79. Sechler came to the University in 1959 as an instructor and retired in 1992 as an associate professor. He was considered a tough but fair teacher, and always made himself available to provide extra help to his students. Sechler earned a bachelor's degree from Albion College in 1953 and a master's degree from Michigan State University in 1955. He was a paratrooper and telephone and telegraph wire chief in 1946 and was recalled to service during the Korean Conflict.
