Are you registered to vote?Sept. 4, 2008 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University is again making voter registration and election information easier to find with a nonpartisan Web site aimed at increasing political participation among students and the general public. "Smart Voting Begins at Your Library" is designed and maintained by the University Libraries and can be found at wmich.edu/vote. It contains links to complete information on eligibility to vote in the Nov. 4 general election and voter registration information for all 50 U.S. states. It also includes a voter registration form for Michigan, available as a PDF file, which can be printed, completed and mailed. The deadline to register is Monday, Oct. 6, one month prior to the election. Other voter information and resources
Web pages sponsored by the League of Women Voters, a nationally recognized nonpartisan organization, provide much of the information. Other voter resources offered include the Annenberg Political Fact Check, Follow the Money and the Michigan Secretary of State. "Smart Voting Begins at Your Library" is endorsed by the Western Student Association, the WMU student government. Information about specific campus voter registration drives and other campus political activities and events may be submitted to WMU News and will be reported in WMU News rather than on the voter information site, which offers more general information.
