Event to focus on new recruitment initiatives

KALAMAZOO--Wondering how the University's new branding initiative is playing out in student recruitment materials? Want to do more to help secure WMU's future by helping enrollment grow?
The campus community will be among the first to see "What's behind the W," when the Office of Admissions, Extended University Programs, Graduate Admissions and the Office of International Student Services act as hosts Tuesday, Sept. 9, for "Recruitment Reveal."
In a session set for 2 p.m. in 208-210 Bernhard Center, staff from the sponsoring units will celebrate the year's achievements in recruiting and offer a look at what's ahead for the 2008-09 recruiting year. President John M. Dunn will offer remarks, new admissions materials will be showcased, and members of the faculty and staff will have a chance to better understand the recruitment process and learn how they can become even more important recruiters for WMU.
"We've had a terrific recruiting year for fall 2008, and we're even more excited about where we're headed in the coming months," says Penny Bundy, director of admissions.
"We have a new recruitment campaign theme to share, and there's new energy behind recruiting initiatives campuswide. We decided to bring the campus community together to share best recruiting practices and get a sense of the look and spirit of the recruitment materials we are using this year."
Those attending the event will have an opportunity to browse displays by each of WMU's colleges and the Division of Minority Affairs to get a sense of how their colleagues in other departments play the role of recruiter. Admissions staffers will also be soliciting input from campus employees who have the names of family members, neighbors and friends they want to suggest as prospective students for upcoming fall classes.
"People are always asking how we determine what area students should receive our recruiting materials," Bundy says. "Our colleagues on campus are often the best source of information about talented students we should be recruiting."
