Smoking ban near building entrances enforced

July 8, 2008

KALAMAZOO--Signs are being posted at all building on the Western Michigan University campus to enforce a ban on smoking near building entrances.

As part of WMU's revised Smoke Free Policy, smoking is not permitted within 25 feet of all building entrances, air intakes and operable windows. Several hundred "no smoking" door signs are being installed on all University building entry doors this summer to enforce the ban.

The policy is intended to provide as close to a smoke-free environment as possible to protect the health and rights of non-smokers. More information on WMU's Smoke Free Policy and other University policies is available on the campuswide policies at www.wmich.edu/policies.
