Choirs premiere student compositionMarch 26, 2008 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's celebrated choirs, University Chorale and Collegiate Singers, present a free concert at 8:15 p.m. Friday, April 4, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. Led by Dr. James K. Bass, director of choral activities at WMU, the choirs will explore the celebration of Roman Catholic Mass used as a compositional form for choir. The concert will begin with a performance of Haydn's "Lord Nelson Mass" by the internationally touring University Chorale with WMU faculty soloists. The second half of the program will feature the world premiere of a composition by WMU student Gordon van Gent. The 40-minute movement, a modern setting of the Mass text, will be presented by Collegiate Singers, accompanied by orchestra, percussion and electric guitar.
